Q: How long the photography session would last?
Full sessions run approximately 60 minutes. Most of the children being photographed runs out of steam after about an hour. We allow small kids to take a short break for snacks, feedings and/or wardrobe change. We ask that you be on time and arrive no earlier than 10 minutes in advance of your session, as we often have a scheduled appointment just before or after your reserved time.
Q: Do you charge more per child?
Your session fee is the same for one child or five children. However, we can effectively work and photography two to three children in a group at the same time. To give your child the most attention, we usually work with no more than a single child at a time. We generally prefer not to mix two families together in a single session for best results.
Q: What is your children photography style?
We strive to capture the authentic personality of the child in our portraits. We engage and work to get your children feel comfortable in front of the camera so we can capture their natural expressions, the ones that you will look at and say, “Oh, this is so much out child!”
Q: Can we have our children portraits in Black & White?
We can prepare any of your portrait images as a beautiful black & white photographs. Please, request black and white versions of your portraits in advance if you have such preference so we can prepare your images accordingly.
Q: What if I cannot make our appointment and need to reschedule my portrait session?
We know that every family can have personal emergencies, illness or weather changes sometimes require sessions to be rescheduled. We request that you provide as much notice as possible in order to make that time slot available to other clients. Cancellations or postponements less than 48 hours prior to your session may result in a cancellation fee.
Q: Do you have any recommendations of what wear for the session?
Simple and timeless clothing is usually the best. Please, avoid logos, busy patterns and large designs on your clothing. Bright colors are lots of fun for young children, while timeless white dresses are lovely for little girls. For babies, we suggest that the more skin showing the better! Bare feet are the best as shoes usually have marks and hard to clean prior to the session.
It is a good idea to bring a few changes of clothing, as multiple clothing changes are encouraged during a session. We recommend starting with your preferred outfit so we can capture it first. Later if your child gets impatient or for some reason we don’t get to the next round of clothes, you will at least have your best choice captured. We leave the formal or casual choice to you.
You can have your children wearing white shirts with denim pants, or wearing a similar color, like khaki or navy blue. For black & white portraits, is best to wear a color darker than your skin tone in order to make the faces in the portrait more prominent.
Q: What kind of backdrops do you use in your studio?
We do offer darker ‘low key’ background for striking black & white portraits. This background works best for darker clothing (black included) which makes the face a focal point of the portrait. Most of our clients however prefer their children portraits on a clean, seamless white backdrop. The ‘high key’ look from this background gives a fresh modern look and works well for all kinds of clothing, including whites, denims, khakis or bright colorful clothing. This is the same look and feel many apparel companies as Macy’s or Gap use for their children clothing images. Please, do let us know if you have a preference for a particular style in advance so that we are prepared before you arrive in the studio. On location we usually use the natural colors of the session, being green grass, fall colors or summer grassy areas for our children portraits.
