Zhouxiao and Haomiao’s Wedding at Memorial Church in Stanford
It’s no secret; as a wedding photographer, I am simply in love with the architecture and landscapes that the Stanford University campus has. Not only is it a grand location, ripe with iconic and historical architecture, but it is also one of the most renowned campuses around the world. For this reason, I was delighted when Haomiao contacted me and asked me to be his wedding photographer.
Haomiao and his wife Zhouxiao are both Stanford University alumni and chose the Stanford Memorial Church as the venue for their ceremony. Such a place is a photographer’s dream, as it features exquisite stone walls and elaborate interior decorations such as stained glass windows, gold ceilings, and masterfully crafted columns.
On the day of the wedding, I met up with Zhuoxiao and her bridesmaids at Dinah’s Hotel in Palo Alto, where the bridal preparations were taking place. When I arrived, I was greeted to the sight of the hair and makeup team hard at work make sure all the ladies looked perfect. The early morning light allowed for some excellent images of the preparation process. I truly cherish the privilege of having behind the scenes access to this part of the wedding.
As the bride and the bridesmaids were starting to get dressed, I left the room and used the time to capture images of the wedding rings and the bride’s shoes. Since I sought a more dramatic look with a great deal of contrast, I chose to highlight the shapes and textures of these items in the final pictures. When the ladies had finished dressing and their hair and makeup was applied, it was time for some group photos. Everyone was ecstatic and it was a great experience for everyone involved.
After the preparations, it was time to leave the Dinah Hotel and head out to the Stanford campus for the ceremony. As the official wedding photographer, I was allowed access to the interior of the church for almost an hour before the actual ceremony began. This gave me the opportunity to capture the fine details of the interior and sit everyone down for their individual bridal portraits. The interior of the church, coupled with the light conditions at the time made for some spectacular portraits.
The wedding ceremony that followed was simply breathtaking. As Haomiao stood at the altar awaiting Zhouxiao, I could feel a tremendous amount of excitement and energy in the room. Friends and family were eagerly waiting for the moment when they would see the bridesmaids and the bride walk down the aisle. As the officiant performed the ceremony, everyone could see just how engulfed in the moment Zhouxiao and Haomiao were.
After the end of the wedding ceremony, we were allotted an additional hour for group pictures. The location the couple chose was the altar, which was located under a large dome with many side windows which streamed sunlight right at the altar. All the guests of honor looked amazing and each was eager to take his or her place alongside the newlywed couple for a photo.
When each guest had their picture taken with Haomiao and Zhouxiao, it was finally time for the bride and groom portraits. We moved outside the church and began shooting. The beautiful background and the emotions the couple showed made for many spectacular images.
After being given the privilege of photographing Zhouxiao and Haomiao’s wedding, I am even more in love with the Stanford Campus than before. Being able to contrast the old and grand architecture of the campus with the youthfulness and energy of the couple made for an extremely interesting juxtaposition in the final images.
I wish the couple many long years of happy and prosperous marriage. I hope to work with them in the future as they were great clients and such fun to work with. And of course, thank them for their glowing review of Trifon Anguelov Photography on Yelp
